How Artificial Intelligence Is Used

AI is used for application in document management, where AI could be used to process and analyze large volumes of legal documents to speed up the legal process, reducing the workload of lawyers and judges. Additionally, predictive analytics could be used to analyze patterns and trends in legal cases to help lawyers and judges make more informed decisions. Finally, natural language processing could be utilized to summarize legal documents, and identify key information. While these seem like simple tasks, problems have arose with bias and unjust results from the artificial algorithms.

While AI has many benefits, it has many limitations. Many AI systems are "black boxes", meaning the inner workings of the system are completely unknown to the average person. Because of this, it is difficult to justify some decisions made by AI, and it is impossible to make improvements to the system if you are not a part of the group that created it. While this is a large issue amongst AI, this biggest issue is with the radical outcomes. In many cases, AI has proven to be biased due to it being a new technology with limited knowledge and data. This has resulted in unfair and unjust outcomes towards minority groups in the judicial system.
