With artificial intelligence being fairly new to the public, it is difficult to regulate the use in places of power. This case study began by asking "Should the use of AI systems be restricted within the Polish Justice system even if they can provide more consistent decisions while saving resources?". To find a solution for this ethical dilemma question, lawmakers need to understand the importance of transparency and accountability. Artificial intelligence creators need to be transparent with government officials when a problem arises in order to be able to stop the problem at the source. The issues with the AI algorithms need to be outed and resolved before implementing the systems into public courtrooms. If the stakeholders in positions of power are transparent and hold each other accountable in favor of public safety, there will be fewer issues with the implementation of AI in the courtroom. While this is an intriguing question, there are many other questions to consider about artificial intelligence.
- Do the improvements to efficiency and effectiveness outweigh the possible limitations of implementing artificial intelligence into the Polish judicial system?
- Should the public have a choice as to whether or not they are involved in the use of artificial intelligence in their trial?
- Where should the line be drawn between using artificial intelligence for small tasks compared to trusting the future of citizens with its decision making?
- How can transparency and accountability of artificial intelligence systems be ensured in the judicial system?
- How will artificial intelligence be integrated with pre-existing legal frameworks within the Polish judicial system?
